HOMESCHOOLING IN TN
In Tennessee, parents/guardians of homeschooled children must register their kids annually, choosing between two options.
They can register with their local education agency (Board of Education) for independent homeschooling, with requirements set by the state. This is the only option that requires the family to submit an official Letter of Intent to homeschool.
A more popular choice is to register with a private, Category IV Church-related School, such as Daniel 1 Academy. This option provides an additional layer of support for families, including graduation ceremonies, diplomas, official transcripts, and much more. Most requirements are set by the school.
A third option does exist, but accredited online schools (Category III non-public virtual schools) do not meet the definition of a homeschool as defined in Tennessee state law.

ORGANIZATION OF D1A
Daniel 1 Academy was founded in the living room of Jack and Cindy Holman in 1992. They were pioneers in a movement that began with just a few families and has now served homeschooling families for over three decades across the state of Tennessee and, in some cases, beyond.
Today, the organization continues to have an impact as those who once graduated through this program are choosing it again for their own children—a testimony to a lasting legacy of choice.
Daniel 1 Academy is a 501c(3) non-profit, Christian organization overseen by Seek Ye First Ministries and led by Principal Darrin Crockett.

AFFILIATION
Daniel 1 Academy is a member of the Tennessee Alliance of Church-Related Schools and is considered a Category IV (private) school.
Homeschool umbrella programs are not required to be accredited by the Department of Education because accreditation would require teachers (parents/guardians) to be state-certified and for curricula to be state-approved.
D1A graduates earn a legitimate diploma that lets them pursue their goals, whether through college, university, vocational/trade schools, the military, or straight to the job market.

FAITH-BASED FOUNDATION
Daniel 1 Academy (D1A) is a Christian organization, founded and run by Christian individuals, applying Christian principles and promoting Christian homeschool materials.
We uphold the belief that all children are divine gifts to their parents/guardians, who bear the responsibility to educate them, regardless of their religious beliefs.
While we don't require a statement of faith from parents/guardians to homeschool through D1A, we do expect respect for our Christian foundation through appropriate behavior at all school events.
